Meet Dawn King

You appear calm and capable - but under the surface, you’re carrying the weight of anxiety, self-doubt, and unhealed experiences that won’t stay buried.

Despite your accomplishments, that quiet voice of “not enough” is still there. You feel stuck in old patterns, overwhelmed, or disconnected - and nothing you’ve tried seems to help.

You’re the one others rely on. You’re thoughtful, responsible, and always giving. But when it comes to your own needs, you tend to come last. You may even believe that asking for help means you’ve failed - or that you should be able to “figure it out” on your own.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you don’t have to keep doing this alone.

I’m Dawn King, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in Colorado. I specialize in helping high-achieving, sensitive adults heal from anxiety, trauma, and addictive patterns - by addressing the root cause, not just the symptoms.

My clients are thoughtful professionals who often feel unseen, overwhelmed, or like they’re "never enough," even after achieving success. Many were the caretakers in their families or the ones who learned early on to suppress their own needs. Therapy with me is about undoing those patterns with compassion and skill.

With over 25 years of experience, I blend evidence-based trauma therapies like EMDR and IFS with mindfulness-based approaches, and somatic work. My approach is active, integrative, and grounded in the belief that healing happens when we involve both the mind and the body.

If you're ready to:

  • Heal from unresolved trauma

  • Reduce anxiety, perfectionism, and people-pleasing

  • Break free from addictive patterns

  • Strengthen boundaries and self-trust

  • Feel more grounded, present, and alive...

…you’re in the right place. I’d be honored to support you.

Why I Do This Work

Over the years, I’ve seen how often capable, caring people carry more than anyone realizes. They push through, take care of others, and quietly wonder why things still feel so hard.

I do this work because I believe people deserve a place where they don’t have to be strong, composed, or “have it all together.” A space where they can feel understood, supported, and begin to experience real, lasting change.

You don’t have to be the strong one here

If you’ve spent most of your life being capable, responsible, and the one others rely on, it can be hard to know what it looks like to be supported yourself.

Many of the people I work with are used to holding everything together on the outside - while quietly feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or alone on the inside.

If that’s you, you’re not alone - and you don’t have to keep carrying it by yourself.

Here’s how therapy with me works:

First, we look at the strategies of coping that are no longer working and now causing anxiety, self-criticism and shame.

Then, we fill in the gaps with the resources and tools that will help you feel steady in your day-to-day life.

Moving at a pace that’s right for you, we’ll gently uncover and heal the roots of these coping strategies through calming the nervous system, transforming old beliefs and creating a space for something new.

Through our work together, you’ll experience a deeper sense of peace, self-trust, and connection with yourself and others.

Get the support that’s right for you.

Training & Experience

I bring more than 25 years of clinical experience working with anxiety, trauma, addiction and PTSD working across a variety of settings including community mental health, substance abuse treatment and higher levels of care.

My work is informed by specialized training in EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), ACT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches, as well as ongoing study in trauma and nervous system healing.

Just as important, I bring a deep respect for how difficult this work can be. I know what it’s like to struggle, to feel overwhelmed, and to wonder if change is truly possible. That personal understanding shapes the way I show up with clients - with compassion, honesty, and a genuine commitment to walking alongside you in the process.
